Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park

This ridge of hills was formed during the second-to-last Ice Age. The land here is a mix of dry heathland and mixed broadleaf-coniferous woodland. The highest point on the ridge, Koningsbelt, is 75 m above sea level. It is the only place in the Netherlands where the black grouse survives in the wild.

Special fauna: Sand lizard, and 60 breeding bird species, including black grouse, woodlark, nightjar, honey buzzard and woodcock
